London — Proving that passion has no age limit, legendary actor Anthony Hopkins has stepped into a new creative spotlight at 88, unveiling his first-ever single as a composer.

The track, titled “Bracken Road,” is part of a broader collection of orchestral compositions created over more than sixty years. These works will be featured in an upcoming album called “Life is a Dream,” as announced by Decca Classics in a statement released on Friday.

Widely celebrated for his iconic acting career, Hopkins has earned numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards. He is best known for his unforgettable portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and his role as the reserved butler Stevens in The Remains of the Day.

However, long before achieving global fame on screen, Hopkins developed a deep connection with music. He began playing the piano at just four years old and quickly discovered a lifelong passion.

“Music was my first love, my earliest ambition,” Hopkins shared. “I’ve been composing throughout my life. Some pieces have stayed with me for decades, and I continue to revisit them.”

By the age of six, he was already experimenting with piano improvisation, and as a teenager, he started composing music for local theatrical productions. Even as his acting career flourished, he never abandoned his musical pursuits, continuing to create compositions across the years.

Music has also been a source of comfort for Hopkins during challenging times. In 2020, during the global pandemic, he shared a heartfelt video of himself playing the piano for his cat, Niblo, offering a glimpse into his personal connection with music.

The upcoming album features performances by the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Grammy Award-winning maestro Gustavo Dudamel. Recorded at Alexandra Palace in London this past April, the project draws inspiration from Hopkins’ Welsh heritage, family roots, and rich life experiences.

Dudamel praised Hopkins’ artistic depth, describing him as a rare talent whose creativity extends beyond a single discipline. He noted that the emotional depth and storytelling ability seen in Hopkins’ acting are equally present in his musical compositions.

“Anthony approaches music like a storyteller and a poet,” Dudamel said, highlighting the deeply personal yet universally relatable nature of the work.

The album “Life is a Dream” is scheduled for release on August 21, marking a remarkable new milestone in Hopkins’ lifelong artistic journey.
