Rutgers football has added a major talent to its 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of wide receiver Isaiah Alvarez from Don Bosco Prep.

Alvarez, widely regarded as one of the top wide receiver prospects in New Jersey, officially announced his decision on June 13 during a ceremony. He chose to play under head coach Greg Schiano and join the Scarlet Knights.

With this addition, Alvarez becomes the 20th recruit in Rutgers’ 2027 class and the third wide receiver, joining Jamar Taylor from Salesianum High School (Delaware) and Arnold Mugerwa of Richland High School (Pennsylvania).

Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 175 pounds, Alvarez is rated as a three-star prospect and is ranked No. 20 overall in New Jersey for his class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He selected Rutgers over several strong programs, including Michigan State, Nebraska, and Colorado, ultimately deciding to stay close to home.

This commitment is significant for multiple reasons. Rutgers continues to build depth and quality at the wide receiver position, which has become a key strength under wide receivers coach Dave Brock.

The development of standout receiver KJ Duff—considered one of the best in the Big Ten and a potential first-round NFL Draft pick—has played a major role in attracting top-tier talent like Alvarez to the program.

Additionally, securing a player from a powerhouse program like Don Bosco highlights Rutgers’ ability to compete for elite in-state talent, even in a recruiting era heavily influenced by NIL opportunities.

With his skill set and potential, Isaiah Alvarez is expected to be an important piece of Rutgers football’s future success and a cornerstone of the 2027 recruiting class.
